Remembrance Parks Central Victoria (RPCV) is unveiling their ANZAC Centenary, Gallipoli Lone Pine Memorial on Saturday the 6th of August at Axedale Remembrance Park. The date of this memorial unveiling marks 101 years since the commencement of the Battle of Lone Pine and will unveil of one of five memorials that have been placed within each of our Remembrance Parks at Axedale, Bendigo, Eaglehawk, Kangaroo Flat and White Hills as recognition of the Australian personnel who gave their lives in the defence of our country.

RPCV, in collaboration with Axedale Our Town Our Future, President and Committee and the Bendigo and District RSL Sub Branch, are holding an official unveiling and commemorative service. An open invitation is extended to current and ex-service members of the Australian Defence Force and the communities of Axedale and District wanting to take part in these proceedings. The event will begin with an unveiling ceremony at 10:00am which will be followed by light refreshments at the Axedale Tavern at the conclusion of the ceremony which will be around 11.00am.

These memorials were developed by the RPCV Community Advisory Committee, which is comprised of local community members with a vested interest in historical memorialisation and remembrance.  RPCV worked closely with the Bendigo RSL seeking their guidance in the design and locality of these memorials to ensure an end result of mutually beneficial memorials recognising the significance of the Lone Pine in Australia’s wartime history.

Forming part of its strategic plan, RPCV highlights the importance of maintaining our historical identity within the cemeteries and providing the community with a memorial for returned service people as a perpetual reminder of their contribution to Australia as we know it today.  These memorials are accessible to the public on any day and provide the community with a place of remembrance, as well as providing them with a focus for events and on days such as Remembrance Day and Anzac Day.
