RPCV Community Photography Competition
Remembrance Parks Central Victoria is currently developing a Master Plan for Axedale Remembrance Park, providing a long-term vision for how this cemetery property will be cared for, used and developed into the future.
As part of that work, we want the Master Plan to reflect more than plans, designs and ideas for the cemetery itself. We want it to capture something of Axedale as a place, including its landscape, natural environment, history and community character.
To help us do that, we are inviting the community to share photographs that show Axedale through your eyes.
Selected photographs will be included throughout the final Master Plan, helping tell the story of the place the remembrance park belongs to and providing a community perspective alongside the plans for its future.
You don't need to be a professional photographer. Whether it is a carefully composed landscape, a favourite local place, something in nature that caught your eye, or a small detail that simply feels like Axedale, we would love to see it.
Photographs can be entered across three categories.
REMEMBER | Axedale Remembrance Park
Capture the character, history and landscape of Axedale Remembrance Park, the public cemetery managed by Remembrance Parks Central Victoria.
This might be a monument or memorial, an established tree, wildlife, a landscape view, a small detail you have noticed, or simply a moment that captures what makes the remembrance park special.
Please note: This category relates specifically to Axedale Remembrance Park and does not include the adjoining private Axedale Catholic Cemetery.
NATURE | The Axedale Landscape
Show us the natural environment that surrounds Axedale.
Native flora and fauna, bushland, waterways, changing seasons, landscapes and the small details of nature that help give Axedale its sense of place.
We are interested in the landscapes that surround the remembrance park as well as the broader natural environment that makes Axedale distinctive.
COMMUNITY | Life in Axedale
Capture the places and everyday details that give Axedale its community character.
Local landmarks, streetscapes, recreation spaces, heritage, community facilities or the small and familiar details that tell the story of Axedale.
It could be somewhere immediately recognisable or something easily overlooked. We want to see Axedale through the eyes of the community that calls it home.
ENTERING THE COMPETITION
You are welcome to submit as many photographs as you like, across one or more of the three competition categories.
Each photograph must be submitted as a separate entry using the competition entry form. This allows you to give each photograph its own title, location and story of up to 50 words.
PRIZES
One $150 gift card from an Axedale business will be awarded in each category.
REMEMBER | $150 gift card
NATURE | $150 gift card
COMMUNITY | $150 gift card
Total prize pool: $450
Recipients will be selected from eligible entries in each category following the close of the competition, with representatives from RPCV's frontline team involved in the selection.
The prizes are intended to encourage community participation. Selection for a prize is separate from the selection of photographs and stories for inclusion in the Master Plan.
TELL US THE STORY
Every photograph has a story, and we would like to hear yours.
As part of your entry, tell us in 50 words or less what you have captured, why you chose it, or what the place, landscape or detail means to you.
Selected stories may be published alongside photographs in the final Master Plan, helping us capture not only what Axedale looks like, but what makes it meaningful to the people who know it.
MORE THAN A COMPETITION
This competition is an opportunity for the community to contribute directly to the story told through the Axedale Remembrance Park Master Plan.
While one entrant in each category will receive a prize, the competition is about much more than selecting three recipients.
Photographs and stories from across all entries may be selected for inclusion throughout the final Master Plan. They may appear alongside the history of the remembrance park, its natural environment, the Master Plan concepts or other parts of the document where they help tell the story of Axedale.
Photographs may also be selected for future RPCV publications, digital communications and community engagement.
Where reasonably practicable, photographers will be acknowledged when their work is published.
PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES
We want the competition to capture Axedale while respecting the privacy and dignity of everyone who uses our remembrance parks.
Photographs submitted to the competition should not include:
• identifiable people
• funerals or funeral services
• coffins or caskets
• burials or interments in progress
• grieving families or visitors
• cemetery operations of a sensitive nature
• anything that may reasonably intrude on the privacy or dignity of another person.
RPCV reserves the right to exclude any photograph considered inappropriate, insensitive or inconsistent with the purpose of the competition.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Entrants must submit photographs they have taken themselves and must have the authority to submit the photograph and grant RPCV permission to use it.
Photographs entered in the REMEMBER category must have been taken within Axedale Remembrance Park (Axedale Public Cemetery), the public cemetery managed by Remembrance Parks Central Victoria. Photographs taken within the adjoining private Axedale Catholic Cemetery are not eligible for this category.
Entrants may submit as many photographs as they like and may enter more than one category. Each photograph must be submitted using a separate entry form.
RPCV employees, Trust members and their immediate family members are welcome to submit photographs for consideration and potential inclusion in the Axedale Remembrance Park Master Plan, but are not eligible to receive a competition prize.
Entrants retain copyright in photographs submitted to the competition.
By submitting a photograph, the entrant grants Remembrance Parks Central Victoria a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to reproduce, publish, display, adapt and otherwise use the photograph and accompanying story for the Axedale Remembrance Park Master Plan and for future RPCV publications, websites, social media, promotional material, community engagement and other organisational purposes.
This licence applies to all photographs submitted to the competition, regardless of whether a photograph receives a prize or is published in the Master Plan.
Submission of a photograph does not guarantee that it will be published or otherwise used by RPCV.
RPCV may reproduce or adapt submitted photographs as reasonably required for publication, including cropping, resizing and incorporating photographs within graphic design layouts. Accompanying stories may be edited for spelling, grammar, length and publication style while retaining their original meaning.
Where reasonably practicable, RPCV will acknowledge the photographer when their photograph is published.
One $150 gift card will be awarded in each category. RPCV reserves the right not to award a prize in a category if no eligible entries are received.

Competition closes: Thursday 15 October 2026 (winners announced Tuesday 20 October 2026)
