Grave subsidence - Why do graves sink?

Grave subsidence refers to the appearance of graves ‘sinking’. This is an entirely natural process caused by loosened soil settling into place. Heavy and prolonged rainfall in particular will contribute to increased levels of grave subsidence.

ON THIS DAY... Angus Mackay (1886)

The 2017 'Scots Day Out' Scottish Heritage Tour this year will provide historical information about various pioneers of Scottish Heritage who are buried at Bendigo Remembrance Park including the Hon. Angus Mackay.

ON THIS DAY... Carl Unmack (1902) & Charles Julius Unmack (1917)

Carl Unmack, one of the earliest partners in the butchery trade in Sandhurst, died in 1902 and was buried at the Bendigo Cemetery on 21st of January. His son Charles Julius Unmack died on 21st January 1917 and was also buried in the Bendigo Cemetery on the 23rd of January, 1917.

ON THIS DAY... John Bain Wilson (1909)

J. B. Wilson was buried in the Bendigo Cemetery on 2nd January 1909 after passing away on New Years Eve in 1908. He was a well know and outstanding local Monumental Mason as well as a committed member of his local community.
